Office selects Asian Electronics Ltd. for Energy Efficiency
Contract
Prime Minister Office [PMO] has selected
Asian Electronics Ltd. [AEL] for Energy Efficiency Performance
Contract worth about Rs.6 Million. Earlier, Shram Shakti Bhavan and
Transport Bhavan have also selected AEL for similar contracts worth
over Rs.25 Million.
The said Energy Efficiency programme is
covered under the energy conservation measures adopted by the
Government of India for achieving the objective of reducing the
energy consumption by 30% within 5 years. The Energy Conservation
Act 2001 was passed by the Government of India in August 2001 and
subsequently Bureau of Energy Efficiency [BEE] has been set up by
the Government of India in March 2002 to promote Energy Conservation
measures. BEE has registered AEL as one of the Energy Service
Companies [ESCO].
It has been estimated that nearly
25,000MW energy can be saved by implementing end-use energy
efficiency and Demand Side Management measures. Efficient use of
energy and its conservation assumes even greater importance in view
of the fact that one unit of energy saved at the consumption level
avoids 2.5 to 3 times fresh capacity creation. Further, such saving
through efficient use of energy can be achieved at less than
one-fifth the cost of fresh capacity creation. Energy efficiency
will, therefore, significantly supplement India’s efforts to meet
power requirement, apart from reducing fossil fuel consumption.
As an Energy Service Company [ESCO] the
energy efficiency measures are achieved without any investment on
the part of the end users, who would pay only from the savings
generated by the equipment. It is a win win situation as the
industry, the end-users, the utilities, the country and the
environment, all benefit in the process.
‘ESCO’ is an US$28 Billion business in
the USA. AEL is the leading ESCO in India’s Corporate Sector.
